Exploring Life Through Words

I am a writer sharing my experiences and insights from the perspective shaped by my military and professional background.

Someone asked me once to write my biography, so I answered "if you read all I've written you will see my story." In short, there is a great deal of truth in the fiction I write. But, as a background, here goes:

Although born at Fort Hood, TX when my father was in the Army, I grew up in the Four Corners area of the American Southwest, primarily Colorado and New Mexico. My paternal Grandfather was from the Laguna reservation near Albuquerque NM, and my Grandmother was Spanish. From their lineage my DNA goes back to Peru. My maternal Grandfather was German and my Grandmother was Dutch, with DNA tracking to central Germany.

Growing up, I attended schools in Winslow AZ, Gallup and Albuquerque NM, and Ouray, Silverton, and Cortez CO.

On high school graduation, I married, joined the U.S. Air Force, helped raise a daughter and a son, and lived in Guam, Italy, Idaho, South Dakota, Texas, and Virginia. On retirement from the military as a senior master sergeant, we moved back to Cortez where I worked for seven years at the Ute Mountain Casino in various positions.

Many life changes occurred, and in 2000 I moved to Colorado Springs CO, remarried, and hired on with Securitas Security Services as an account manager providing contract security for a couple of hi-tech companies. I officially retired from the workforce in 2020, and we now travel extensively within the United States and internationally.

My M.A. is in Organizational Management, and my B.A. is in business. I also have associate degrees in criminal justice and instructional technology. I carry a lifetime certification as a protection professional (CPP), and have lifetime memberships with the Air Force Association, the Air Force Sergeants Association, and the Air Force Security Forces Association. Both in the past and currently I have been involved with the social programs of welfare-to-work, schools-to-careers, Colorado Works, court appointed special advocates (CASA), Alzheimer's Association, and Voices of Grief classes.

So to wrap up my opening comments, my writing reflects experiences from the last half century or so. The names have been changed, but the stories remain the same. And thanks to those who read them.

Best to all. Steve
